Hair Rebonding Guide

Voluminous and textured hair looks gorgeous, but not many people realize the time and effort that goes into creating and maintaining the same. Many people turn to hair rebonding to save themselves from the hassles of taming their mane every morning. Such a treatment option not only makes your hair look shinier, smooth, and straight but also saves a lot of time that would otherwise go into battle with your hair. To make the most out of the hair rebonding treatment, it is necessary to understand how this technique works and the necessary steps to take care of rebonded hair.

Meaning of Hair Rebonding

The process of rebonding is a chemical hair treatment that helps in straightening curls. This technique is ideal for getting a straight mane, especially when you have frizzy and unmanageable hair. The chemicals help in breaking down the bonds that connect the amino acids in the hair. The breakdown of the bond changes the structure of the natural hair texture. The entire process makes use of a neutralizer, a relaxant, flat iron, a blow dryer, and milk shampoo. The end result is smooth and shiny hair that will not revert to its original condition.

The Hair Rebonding Process

The entire process of rebonding involves the use of chemicals and heat to alter the structure of your hair. Depending on the length of the hair, the treatment can take time from 3 to 8 hours. The process involves the following materials –

  • A flat iron with adjustable temperature settings
  • Hair rebonding kit
  • Mild shampoo
  • A blow dryer.

Step-1: A stylist washes the hair with a mild shampoo without applying any conditioner.

Step-2: The hair is then left to dry naturally or blow-dry.

Step-3: The stylist then divides the hair into sections depending on its volume and texture.

Step-4: Then, a relaxant is applied while the hair is held straight with thin plastic boards. This ensures that the relaxant is applied to every strand of hair.

Step-5: The relaxant is then left for about 45 minutes, during which the hair is closely monitored.

Step-6: Then, the hair is washed, and a keratin lotion is applied, after which it is straightened with a flat ceramic iron at 180°C.

Step-7: A neutralizer is used to secure the bond and left on for half-an-hour and then rinsed with cold water.

Benefits of Hair Rebonding

There are several benefits of hair rebonding some of which are as follows –

  • Helping the user get a straightened hair is the greatest benefit of the hair rebonding process. Although the hair gets permanently straightened, it does not affect the hair that has not yet grown out of the scalp.
  • The process makes the hair more manageable as you don’t need to regularly heat your hair to keep it straight.
  • Another benefit is that the process can be relaxing as you can avail of any associated service while you enjoy getting your hair done.

Bottom Line

The hair rebonding process is not the end of your haircare treatment. You need to take adequate care such as trimming split ends, ensuring touch-ups for new growths that emerged from your scalp, and visiting a haircare expert at regular intervals. Since the process is a new introduction to the hair care arena, proper care must be taken to ensure its safe use.
